Vienna (Austria), Sunday 15 November 2015
Almost 800 runners took part in last year's Leopoldilauf which is held annually in honour of Saint Leopold III, patron saint of Vienna and of Austria, whose feast day is on November 15th.
Staged on a 7km-long loop course through the wooded Prater, the largest public park in Vienna, the event offers three races—7km, 14km, and 21.1km half marathon.
The route is pancake-flat, traffic-free, and AIMS-certified. The start/finish line is on Prater Hauptallee, an over-4km-long avenue through the park.
From the course there are fine views of the famous Wiener Riesenrad, which stands in the ‘Wurstelprater’ amusement park (pictured).
Participants can use the showers and changing facilities of the LCC athletic club at the nearby Ernst-Happel-Stadion, Austria's national stadium.
