Artegna (Italy), Sunday 29 November 2015
Undeterred by the drizzly weather, over 800 runners, hikers and nordic walkers turned out for the third edition of the Corse Pignote in 2014, and even more participants are expected for the 2015 event which is to be held on 29 November.
The event offers two routes (7km and 14km long) around Artegna, a picturesque village that sits at the foot of the Julian Alps in the north-east of Italy, approximately 20km to the north of the city of Udine.
Both routes are very hilly, varied and scenic. Participants run (or walk) on mixed terrain (asphalt, cobbles, trails, gravel roads, stairs) through the village, through lovely woods, and up to the Castello Savorgnan (pictured above).
Corse Pignote is not a race. It is one of the many non-competitive FIASP (Federazione Italiana Amatori Sport per Tutti) events that take place every weekend all over Italy. Finishing times are not recorded. Prizes are awarded to the largest groups.
The event is named after the dialect that is spoken in Artegna.
