18th Kekes Peak Run 2015
Mátrafüred (Hungary), Saturday 6 June 2015
The Kékes Csúcsfutás in Hungary is one of the largest mountain running events in Central Europe. Last year, 1,484 runners completed the 11.6km-long course.
The route follows the road from the village of Mátrafüred, which sits at the foot of the Mátra mountain range, to the summit of Kékes (or Kékestető), Hungary's highest peak (1014m). The elevation gain from start to finish is 671m.
On top of the mountain, all finishers touch a rock that is painted in the colours of the Hungarian flag (pictured).
After the race, participants will have to walk back to Mátrafüred but they can take a shorter route through the forest.
In 2014, the fastest finishers were Bogos Tamás (47min 59sec) and Merényi Tímea Krisztina (51min 39sec).
