Spilimbergo (Italy), Sunday 20 December 2015
The Marcia di Babbo Natale is a lovely non-competitive pre-Christmas event that attracts several hundred runners and hikers every year.
Some participants are dressed as Santas, others wear plain clothes.
Three routes are on offer, approximately 3km, 6km and 12km long.
All routes begin and end in the Old Town of Spilimbergo, a beautiful town of about 12,000 people, situated in the Province of Pordenone in the north-east of Italy.
Participants run, jog or walk through the festively-decorated historic town centre as well as through residential and rural areas.
The route is on mixed terrain (cobbles, asphalt, gravel and trails) which is partly flat and partly undulating.
The entry fees are very low (€8.50 including a Santa Claus dress or €2.50 without a dress), and all finishers get a meal after the marcia.
