The Trail Dolomitica trail running festival takes place in the village of Padola, which sits at an elevation of over 1200 metres in the municipality of Comelico superiore in the far north of Italy, very close to the border with Austria.
Two races through the stunning scenery of the Dolomites are on offer:
- 20km Eco-Trail with 1100m of ascent and 1100m of descent
- 42km Eco-Marathon with 2150m of ascent and 2150m of descent
The event also features two races for walkers — 8km and 16km long.
Runners should have some experience with running in the high mountains. The highest point on the marathon course is at an elevation of 2380 metres.
Therefore, it is highly recommended to take at least a windbreaker jacket, gloves and a hat with you. It is allowed to use trekking poles.
The time limit to finish the marathon is ten hours.
