Moena - Cavalese (Italy), Sunday 7 September 2014
Held on a very scenic 25.5km point-to-point course through the Dolomites in northern Italy, the Marcialonga Running race attracts a crowd of around 1400 runners.
The race is run on roads and trails along the River Avisio, starting in Moena (pictured), a small town that sits at an elevation of 1165 metres in the Val di Fassa, and finishing in the ski resort of Cavalese, which is at 983 metres above sea level in the Val di Fiemme. The first 22km are downhill (305m of descent), and the last 3.5km are uphill (123m of ascent).
Last year, the fastest finishers were Lahcen Mokraji of Morocco (1:19:04) and Ivana Iozzia of Italy (1:33:03). The time limit to complete the course is 3hr 30min.
