The Borsberglauf takes runners up and down the slopes of the Dresden Elbe Valley (Dresdner Elbtal), one of Germany's most beautiful cultural landscapes.

The event offers a number of very hilly and scenic multi-terrain races — 2.2km, 6.5km, 11.5km, and 17.5km long. Children run 300m.

All races begin and end at the hockey pitch at Schloss Pillnitz, an 18th-century complex of palaces, located on the right bank of the River Elbe, approximately 13km from the city centre of Dresden.

The 17.5km route visits two hills (the Borsberg and the Doberberg), a historic windmill (the Reitzendorfer Windmühle), a series of old stone bridges, the romantic Friedrichsgrund valley, and the vineyards around the Weinbergkirche (pictured).

The Borsberglauf is held on the ‘Day of German Unity’, Germany's national day, celebrated on October 3rd to commemorate the anniversary of German reunification.
