Magnano in Riviera (Italy), Sunday 26 October 2014
The Marcia Internazionale delle Castagne ("International Chestnut Walk") takes place in the village of Magnano in Riviera which is situated at the foot of the Alps in the province of Udine in the north-east of Italy.
A marcia is a non-competitive event. It's not a race. There's no timekeeping and no results lists. Participants run or jog or walk, and some even take their dogs with them.
Participants can start at any time between 8.30am and 10am, and they can decide on the course which distance they want to run — 4km, 7km, 13km, 22km, or 27km.
All routes are very scenic. The longer routes are also very challenging as they take the participants on mixed terrain up and down the densely-wooded alpine foothills.
The event forms part of the Sapori di Castagne e Noci, a chestnut and walnut festival where fine food is available at very reasonable prices, for instance ...
