34th Three Hearts Marathon 2014
Radenci (Slovenia), Saturday 17 May 2014
The Maraton treh src attracts a crowd of about 4000 runners to the small mineral-water-producing town of Radenci, which is located in a low-lying agricultural region on the border between Slovenia and Austria.
The event comprises a half marathon, a full marathon, and two shorter races (approximately 5.3km and 10.2km long).
Starting and finishing at the Zdravilišče Radenci, a spa resort with thermal indoor and outdoor pools, the marathon consists of two laps of an IAAF/AIMS-certified course through farmland and villages on a broad flat plain.
Many athletes have tried to run a fast marathon time in Radenci but this has proven to be rather difficult as it can get very warm in the region in mid-May, and there's hardly any shade on the course. Thus, finishing times have often been relatively slow.
Last year, 226 runners completed the marathon. The winners were Elisha Kiprotich Sawe of Kenya (2:25:46) and Daniela Elena Cîrlan of Romania (2:41:55).
The time limit to complete the first lap of the marathon is 2 hours 15 minutes.
