The Marcia dei tre laghi is a long-standing non-competitive event that attracts a crowd of 2000 or more runners and hikers every year.

The event offers four very scenic multi-terrain routes (5km, 11km, 18km, 28km) through the wooded hills of the Carso in the north-east of Italy.

All routes begin and end in the village of Selz which is located near the shipbuilding town of Monfalcone in the Gulf of Trieste.

As the Marcia is a fun run without timekeeping many participants take their time to enjoy the course through beautiful scenery. The route visits three lakes (‘tre laghi’) and the well-restored World War One trenches of the ‘Great War Open Museum’ (‘Parco Tematico della Grande Guerra’).

Along the course, there are several well-stocked feed stations. Last year, participants indulged in sardines, grilled polenta, red and white wine, fruit, tea, biscuits, and more. The entry fees are very low — three euros on the day.
