‘LCC Spring Marathon’ 2014

Held just three weeks after the Vienna City Marathon, the Frühlingsmarathon offers another fine opportunity to run a marathon or half marathon in Austria's capital.

Organized by the LCC Wien athletics club, the event also features a 7k race, a half marathon relay for teams of three runners, and a marathon relay for teams of six.

Like the Herbstmarathon in the autumn, the ‘Spring Marathon’ takes place entirely in the Prater, a vast wooded park which is home to various sports venues, as well as to the ‘Wurstelprater’ amusement park (pictured).

The route is a 7km loop (7032.5 metres, to be precise). Ergo, the half marathon is three laps, and the marathon is six laps.

As the course is pancake-flat, traffic-free and AIMS-certified the event offers a fair chance of setting a personal record. The time limit to finish the race is six hours.

The course won't be crowded either. Last year, the event had 264 finishers overall. Only 27 runners completed the full marathon.
