Held annually on a summer night in July, the Römerlauf pays tribute to the Romans who founded the city of Flavia Solva, which was situated near the modern town of Leibnitz in Austria's state of Styria.

Around 1300 runners and nordic walkers took part in the event last year.

Three race distances are on offer — a 6.7km Volkslauf , a 10.4km Viertelmarathon, and a 20.86km Halbmarathon, which consists of two laps.

The 6.7km route is more or less flat but the 10.4km loop is quite challenging with 80m of ascent (and the same of descent).

The course is illuminated with more than 1000 lights.

Participants in the half marathon run twice across the Seggauberg and around the Sulmsee.
