This winter marathon race is held in the Baltic Sea port of Kiel, a city of 240,000, located at the head of the Kiel Fjord (Kieler Förde) in the far north of Germany.

Entrants can choose to run either one lap (10km), two laps (half marathon), or four laps (marathon) of a completely flat out-and-back course along the fjord.

The start/finish area is at the Cruise Terminal Ostseekai in the city centre.

In 2013, the event welcomed a crowd of 1500 runners, many of whom came from Denmark or Sweden.
