Spilimbergo (Italy), Sunday 21 December 2014
Several hundred Santa Clauses (and as many runners and walkers in plain clothes) take part in the annual Marcia di Babbo Natale, a fun running and hiking event in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region in the north-east of Italy.
Two routes are on offer, approximately 6km and 12km long, starting and finishing in the heart of the festively-decorated Old Town of Spilimbergo.
Participants run (or walk) through the Christmas market and through residential and rural areas. The route is mostly flat and on mixed terrain (cobbles, asphalt, gravel and trails).
The entry fees are very low (€2.50) and all participants get a plate of bean and barley soup in the finish area.
