Staranzano (Italy), Sunday 7 December 2014
The Marcia degli Alberoni is a non-competitive event for runners and hikers, held every year on the first Sunday in December near the shipbuilding town of Monfalcone in the north-eastern corner of Italy.
The event offers three very scenic and flat routes: 7km, 14km, and 20km long.
Participants run on roads and trails along two canals, through a beautiful nature area at the Isonzo river mouth, along the coast of the Gulf of Trieste, and through the small beach resort of Marina Julia.
The registration process is simple. You just turn up, pay the entry fee (€ 3), and off you go. You can start at any time between 9am and 10am, and you can still decide on the course which route you want to take. All routes are well-marked and marshalled, and there are several aid stations along the course.
