Hvar (Croatia), Saturday 23 August 2014
This challenging half marathon road race is held on the Adriatic island of Hvar in the Dalmatia region in the southern part of Croatia.
Hvar can be reached by ferry from the Dalmatian coast or from Italy.
The race follows a point-to-point course which begins in one of Europe's oldest towns — the port of Stari Grad.
The first 12km are uphill (+400m), the remaining 9km are downhill (-400m). From the course, there are stunning panoramic views over Hvar and neigbouring islands.
The finish line is at the harbour of Hvar Town (pictured), a chic resort with a picturesque medieval core.
Last year, 147 runners from 21 countries completed Hvar Half Marathon. The fastest finishers were Croatia's Zoran Žilić (1:17:24) and Marija Vrajić (1:28:45).
