This popular sports event takes place in Leipzig, a dynamic and very green city of about half a million people in Germany's state of Saxony.

The event offers various races for all ages and abilities.

In 2013, the most popular distance was the half marathon which saw approximately 2300 runners and 400 inline skaters crossing the finishing line.

The 10k race had about 1450 finishers and the full marathon had 650 finishers.

Starting and finishing at Leipzig's modern football arena in the vast Sportforum area (ca. 2km west of the historic centre), the marathon route consists of two laps of a gently undulating course.

Participants run through the city centre, through residential areas, and around the Völkerschlachtdenkmal (pictured), a 91-metre-high monument erected in 1913 to commemorate Napoleon's defeat in the ‘Battle of the Nations’ near Leipzig one hundred years earlier.
