Bassano del Grappa (Italy), Sunday 1 September 2013
This half marathon road running race in the Veneto region in the north-eastern part of of Italy draws around 500 to 600 runners to the old town of Bassano del Grappa which sits on the River Brenta at the foot of the Alps, approximately 70km from Venice.
Starting and finishing in Bassano's historic centre, the route is a gently undulating, traffic-free loop through rural areas and small towns, for instance through Marostica with its impressive town walls.
Participants also run across the Ponte Vecchio, a beautiful wooden bridge designed by the architect Palladio in the sixteenth century (pictured below).
The time limit to finish the race is 2 hours 15 minutes.
