Over 1500 runners took part in last year's Grænseløbet (German: Grenzlauf) in Kruså, a Danish village on the Denmark-Germany border.

Two race distances are on offer: 5.15km and 11.7km. The course is a challenging run on mixed terrain (asphalt, gravel, and trails), mostly through woods and farmland.

The shorter run is held entirely on Danish soil but the 11.7km race takes runners across a footbridge (pictured) into Germany and then, after about two kilometres, through another border crossing back into Denmark.

Entrants to the cross-border run must show their passport at registration but they don't need to take it with them during the race.
