Held in the Baltic Sea port of Kiel, the Kiel Lauf is one of the biggest running events in northern Germany. More than 7800 runners finished one of the races last year.

Over 3600 took part in the 10.5km quarter marathon, 1750 completed the half marathon, and more than 1300 ran the 6k race.

All routes begin and end at Kiel's Opera House, next to the Town Hall, the tower of which overlooks the 'Kleiner Kiel' lake in the city centre.

The half marathon consists of two laps of a gently undulating and certified course. About 3km of each lap are run along the Kieler Förde, an inlet of the Baltic Sea.
