Around 550 elite and fun runners took part in last year's Maratonina dei Borghi, a top class half marathon race in the town of Pordenone which sits on the vast Venetian Plain in the north-east of Italy.

Starting and finishing on Piazza XX Settembre (pictured) in the town centre, the route is a mostly flat loop through different borghi (quarters) of Pordenone.

Competitors run through residential, commercial and rural areas as well as through Pordenone's picturesque Old Town with its beautiful arcades.

In 2012, the winners were Solomon Kirwa Yego (1:01:34) and Helen Jepkurgat (1:12:28), both of Kenya. The time limit to complete the course is 2hr 30min.
