18. Ljubljanski maraton 2013
Ljubljana (Slovenia), Sunday 27 October 2013
Just about every runner in Slovenia appears to be on the streets of Ljubljana for the annual Ljubljanski maraton.
Last year, almost 12,000 athletes took part in either the 10km race, the 21.1km half marathon, or the 42.2km marathon.
The start and the finish are on the magnificent Congress Square in the city centre.
The course is closed to traffic and mostly flat but it doesn't offer much in terms of sightseeing.
Participants in the marathon (which consists of two laps) also need to be aware that the time limit to complete the first lap is rather restrictive — 2 hours 15 minutes.
Thus, the marathon field is relatively small (about 1200 runners). Much more popular are the half marathon (ca. 6000 runners) and the 10k race (ca. 4500 runners).
The entry fees are the same for all three races — from €30 up to €70.
