The Stadtlauf Nürnberg is the largest running event in the Franconia region in northern Bavaria. In 2012, over 7000 runners completed one of the three races — the half marathon, the 10km, or the 6km run.

The event is held on the ‘Day of German Unity’, Germany's national day, celebrated on October 3rd to commemorate the anniversary of German reunification.

The start and finish are at the Opera House of Nuremberg (German: Nürnberg), an old and historically important city of half a million people.

The half marathon consists of two laps of a mostly flat course that takes runners through the city centre, through parkland, and around the Wöhrder See (pictured below), a reservoir in the eastern part of Nuremberg.

Instead of a bib number, entrants get a technical T-shirt which they have to wear during the race.
