11th Palmanova Half Marathon 2013
Palmanova (Italy), Sunday 17 November 2013
No, it's not "una mezza per tutti" as is suggested on the website of the Mezza Maratona ‘Città di Palmanova’, a half marathon with approximately 3,000 participants, held annually in November in the Province of Udine in the north-eastern part of Italy.
Strangely enough, only runners from Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, and from Austria's state of Carinthia are welcome to take part in the race.
Athletes from other countries and regions are excluded — a policy which is unacceptable to the international running community.
Well, for those who are allowed to take part in the race:
Starting and finishing on the central square of the star-shaped Venetian fortress town of Palmanova, the course is a very flat loop through farmland and rustic villages on the vast Friulian Plain.
