Corno di Rosazzo (Italy), Saturday 11 May 2013
The Marcia dei vini forms part of a five-day wine festival, the "Fiera dei vini", which is held annually in the village of Corno di Rosazzo in the province of Udine in the far north-east of Italy, very close to the border with Slovenia.
There's no timekeeping or results lists as this is a non-competitive event. Prizes are awarded to the largest groups, not to the fastest finishers.
Starting on Corno's main square, participants run or walk either a 7km or a 14km loop around the village, mostly through vineyards and woods. The route is very hilly on mixed terrain (asphalt, gravel and trails) — and very scenic!
Although the entry fees are just € 2.50 all participants get a free pasta meal after the run, and they get the opportunity to sample fine local wines for as little as € 1.
