Held once every two years, the Weltkulturerbelauf ("World Heritage Site Run") attracts more than 10,000 runners to the town of Bamberg in Bavaria, Germany.

The event offers a half marathon, a 10.9k and a 4.4k run, and children's races.

The start and finish of all races is in Bamberg's beautifully-preserved historic centre, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The half marathon is particularly challenging. The route is on mixed terrain (asphalt, cobbles, gravel, ...) and includes approximately 280 metres of ascent.

Participants run up and down to the medieval Altenburg castle, along the River Rechnitz and the Rhine-Main-Danube Canal, and through the Old Town with its narrow streets and its many magnificent sights.
