4a Maratona Bressanone Dolomiti 2013
Brixen-Bressanone (Italy), Saturday 29 June 2013
The Brixen Dolomiten Marathon is a highly-demanding 42.2-kilometre uphill mountain running race that features 2340 metres of climbing.
The start is at the Cathedral of the small town of Brixen (Italian: Bressanone), situated at 560 metres above sea level in the narrow Eisack Valley in Italy's alpine province of South Tyrol where most people speak German as a first language.
The first 4km are a flat loop through Brixen but then starts the long climb to the finish line which is at an elevation of 2450 metres on Plose, a massive mountain with three summits over 2500 metres, and a popular skiing and hiking area.
Most of the race is run on gravel roads and trails. The steepest part comes at the end, with 3km to go to the finish.
It is possible to run the race as a relay team of four runners.
The time limit to finish is eight hours. It is not allowed to use hiking poles.
Last year, 340 marathon runners and 53 relay teams finished the race. The winners were again Hermann Achmüller (3:41:12) and Edeltraud Thaler (4:12:11).
