Held two months after the Hamburg Marathon and just nine days after the popular Nachtlauf Hamburg, the Hamburg Halbmarathon is a another large-scale running event in the "Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg" in northern Germany.

In 2012, Kenya's Jacob Kendagor (1:02:20) and Caroline Chepkwony (1:13:27) led a field of over 4500 runners to the finish line at the Hamburger Rothenbaum, Germany's biggest tennis stadium.

The start is about 3.5 kilometres further south on the Reeperbahn street, Hamburg's legendary red-light and amusement district — the "Sinful Mile".

Participants run two laps through the St. Pauli district, followed by a 12-kilometre run along the harbour, past the warehouses of the Speicherstadt (pictured), through the city centre, and around the Außenalster lake. The course is certified and gently undulating.
