‘Moravian Karst Half Marathon’ 2013

Well over 1000 runners are expected to take part in this year's half marathon through the Moravský kras (Moravian Karst), a protected landscape area with more than 1000 limestone caves in the South Moravian Region in the Czech Republic.

The undulating route begins and ends on the main square of Blansko, an industrial town of about 21,000 people, situated 30km north of the city of Brno.

Competitors run two loops through the town centre and then out and back a steep river valley into the karst.

The turning point is at the Punkevní jeskyně (Punkva Caves), the most popular tourist attraction in the area.

Last year, the fastest half marathon finishers were Lukás Olejníček (1:11:03) and Petra Kamínková (1:23:39).

The event also offers a 2.4km fun run without timekeeping. The route is two loops through the town centre (1600m + 800m).

There will also be plenty of food and drinks available on Blansko's main square, as well as live music and show acts.
