The Blejski mali maraton attracts around 250 runners to the picture-postcard lake of Bled, Slovenia's most popular alpine tourist destination.

Entrants can choose between the 5.9km ‘family run’ (družinski tek) or the 21.1km half marathon (mali maraton).

The 5.9km race is one lap, and the half marathon is three-and-a-half laps around the lake. The route is undulating on a mix of asphalt and gravel paths.

The start is at 5pm on a Saturday in late August when it may still be pretty warm in the region, and when there may be quite a few afternoon strollers on the course.

Thus, you might prefer to treat the race as a fun run in a beautiful setting and enjoy the scenery, rather than aiming for a fast time.
