La Camignada poi Siè Refuge — 'Walk around Six Mountain Huts'
Auronzo di Cadore (Italy), Sunday 4 August 2013
La Camignada features a highly challenging 30km point-to-point trail running route through the breathtaking Sexten Dolomites in the far north of Italy.
The route includes about 1300 metres of ascent and 2200 metres of descent. The highest point on the course is at an elevation of over 2500 metres!
Fortunately, participants can take their time to enjoy the scenery—the time limit to complete the course stands at 10 hours.
The start is at Lake Misurina (Lago di Misurina, 1752m), near the ski resort of Cortina d'Ampezzo. The finish line is in the village of Auronzo di Cadore (864m).
Along the route, participants pass six mountain huts, among them the Rifugio Locatelli (pictured) near the famous Three Lavaredo Peaks (Tre Cime / Drei Zinnen).
Over 1000 runners and hikers take part in the event each year. In 2012, the fastest finishers were Nicola Giovanelli (2:45:38) and Daniela da Forno (3:25:38).
