24th Kainach Mountain Marathon 2013
Kainach (Austria), Sunday 11 August 2013
The Bergmarathon Kainach takes runners up and down the Gleinalpe mountain range in Austria's state of Styria, about fifty kilometres west of the city of Graz.
The route is a very demanding 44-kilometre loop, mostly on trails through forests and mountain pastures. Overall, the course features 1800 metres of ascent.
The start and finish are in the village of Kainach bei Voitsberg (542m). The highest point on the course (1790m) is on the grassy ridge of the Gleinalpe.
The event also offers walking competitions and a relay race for teams of three runners.
Runners should expect to add at least one hour to their road marathon finishing time. The time limit to complete the course is seven hours (nine hours for walkers).
Last year, the fastest Bergmarathon finishers were Andreas Rois (3:43:09) and Karoline Dohr (4:28:04).
