Bruneck-Brunico (Italy), Saturday 24 August 2013
Schloss Neuhaus — just one of the castles along the route.
Participants in the 3/4 Halbmarathon run 17.6 kilometres (circa 11 miles) of an undulating point-to-point course along the Tauferer Tal, a green valley situated in a German-speaking region in Italy's beautiful alpine province of South Tyrol.
The start is in Bruneck (Italian: Brunico), a very pretty town of about 15,000 people. The finish line is in the holiday and ski resort of Sand in Taufers (Campo Tures).
Snow-capped mountain peaks and several castles on the hillsides provide an impressive backdrop to the course.
The route is on traffic-free roads and cycleways. A short section is on a trail.
Last year, the race had 570 finishers from seven countries. The winners were South Tyrol's Hannes Rungger (0:58:36) and Agnes Tschurtschenthaler (1:03:30).
