12° Salto Maratonina in Montagna 2012
Jenesien/San Genesio (Italy), Sunday 23 September 2012
The Soltn Berghalbmarathon is a very hilly trail half marathon running race in Italy's alpine province of South Tyrol, where most speak German as a first language.
The start and finish are in the village of Jenesien (Italian: San Genesio), situated at an elevation of over 1200 metres on the beautiful Salten Plateau which rises above the city of Bolzano-Bozen.
The route is very scenic and challenging. Overall, it includes 520 metres of ascent (and the same of descent). The highest point on the course is at about 1500 metres.
Most of the race is run on trails through lovely mountain pastures and woods. Just the first two kilometres are on asphalt roads.
Last year, the race attracted over 200 runners. The fastest finishers were Hannes Rungger (1:15:04) and Edeltraud Thaler (1:34:09).
