Moena - Cavalese (Italy), Sunday 2 September 2012
Held on a scenic 25.5km point-to-point course in the Dolomites in northern Italy, the Marcialonga Running race attracts around 1300 runners.
Start is in the small town of Moena (pictured), situated at an elevation of 1165 metres in the Val di Fassa. Competitors run on roads and trails along the River Avisio to the finish in the ski resort of Cavalese, which sits at 983 metres in the Val di Fiemme.
Most of the route is downhill. The course drops about 300 metres over the first 22km. The last part of the race, however, is tough as the route climbs approximately 130 metres over the last 3.5km.
Last year, the fastest finishers were Abdelkabir Saji (1:20:55) and Eliana Patelli (1:33:23). The time limit to complete the course is 3 hours 30 minutes.
