Participants in the Keszthelyi Kilométerek run up to 42.2 kilometres through Keszthely, an appealing small town on Lake Balaton, Central Europe's largest lake.
Last year, a record number of over 850 runners took part in the event. Most popular was the half marathon, which consists of two laps. The four-lap marathon had 127 finishers. The relay races are also growing in popularity.
Starting and finishing on Keszthely's main square, the route is a mildly undulating 10.5km loop. Competitors run on roads, bikeways and footpaths through the town centre, residential areas and parkland, along the lakefront, and past the grand Festetics Palace.
In 2011, the marathon winners were Gábor Szabó (2:44:45) and Szilvia Lubics (3:15:32).
