5. Balaton Szupermaraton 2012

This popular ultra marathon race around Lake Balaton, Central Europe's largest lake, offers various races for ultra runners and relay teams.

The route is a 195-kilometre-long loop, split in four stages:

15 March 2012 Thursday Siófok - Fonyód 46.7km
16 March 2012 Friday Fonyód - Szigliget 52.9km
17 March 2012 Saturday Badacsony - Balatonfüred 43.6km
18 March 2012 Sunday Balatonfüred - Siófok 52.2km

 

Participants can choose to run all four stages (Supermarathon), only the last two stages (Half Supermarathon) or just one stage (Marathon+).

Relay teams consist of up to four runners.

The route runs along footpaths, cycle paths and minor roads, mostly close to the shore. Some portions of the course are completely flat, others are pretty hilly.

In 2011, over 900 runnes from 16 countries took part in the event. The Supermarathon winners were Vytautas Grazys of Lithunania (14:07:58) and Hungary's Veronika Görög (15:55:50).

Entry fees (Supermarathon): 33,000/36,500/40,000 HUF (until 31 Dec/9 Mar/after 9 Mar)

Entry fees (2-person relay): 30,000/33,000/36,500 HUF

Entry fees (3- or 4-person relay): 27,750/30,500/33,500 HUF

Entry fees (Marathon+): 9,000/10,000/11,000 HUF

Exchange rate: 1,000 HUF = ca. 3.30 EUR

Race centre: Siófok, Hotel Aranypart (14 March 16.00-18.00, 15 March 8.30-10.30)

You get: sports clothing, goody bag, finisher medal, massage; transport of personal clothing (for individual runners only); no bus service for relay runners!

  • Supermarathon: 107 individuals; 114 relay teams
  • Half Supermarathon: 21 individuals ; 36 relay teams
  • Marathon+: 40 individuals
