24th "Around Ratekau" 2012

Rund um Ratekau offers a 5km and a 10km running race around Ratekau, a village of 4000 people, situated in the rural district of Ostholstein in northern Germany. 

Ratekau sits in a very convenient location, approximately eight kilometres from the Baltic coast and twelve kilometres from the Hanseatic City of Lübeck.

With 800 or more finishers, "Rund um Ratekau" is one of the major running events in the region. This year, the event features a new course. Previously, the main race was 15km long.

Starting and finishing on Ratekau's athletics track, the route runs through woods and farmland, through various parts of the village, and past a beautiful twelfth-century church (pictured).

The 5k run consists of a single loop, whereas participants in the 10k race run two different loops (ca. 7km and 3km). The route is very mildly undulating.

A major part of the race is run on rather narrow cycleways and pavements alongside country roads. A short section is on cobbles. The 5k includes approximately 600 metres on dirt roads.
