"Trail of Hope along the Path of the Three Eagles"
Monte Baldo (Italy), Sunday 22 July 2012
The Trail della speranza race takes place on Monte Baldo, a mountain ridge that stretches along the eastern shore of Lago di Garda, Italy's largest lake.
Participants run 24 kilometres on dirt roads and trails through wonderful countryside. The route is very challenging with 1,200 metres of climbing.
The start is at the Rifugio Novezzina mountain hut (1,235m) which is on the eastern slopes of the mountain, above the village of Ferrara di Monte Baldo.
The finish line is at an elevation of 1,750 metres, at the summit station of the cableway from Malcesine (on Lake Garda) to the Monte Baldo ridge.
The last part of the course offers breathtaking views of the lake, which lies almost 1,700 metres below.
Last year, around 250 runners took part in the race. The winners were Isacco Piubelli (2:09:34) and Lisa Borzani (2:37:51).
