7th "Lake Faak Run" 2012
Faaker See (Austria), Sunday 8 July 2012
Participants in the Faakerseelauf run either one lap (10.55km "Panoramalauf") or two laps (21.1km half marathon) around the Faaker See, a popular summer holiday destination in Austria's state of Kärnten (Carinthia).
Over seven hundred runners—many of them holidaymakers and day trippers from neighbouring countries—took part in the races last year.
Free access to the lake is very limited, and only a short section of the course runs along the lakeshore. Nevertheless, the race follows an attractive and scenic route through pretty countryside and villages.
The route is traffic-free and certified. You will find it rather difficult to set a half marathon personal record, however, as parts of the course are rather hilly, and approximately one kilometre is on forest trails.
