36th "New Year's Eve Run Vienna" 2012

Starting at 11am on New Year's Eve, the annual Wiener Silvesterlauf features a scenic 5.4-kilometre loop course around Vienna's city centre.

Last year, the race had over 3000 participants.

Most of the race is run on the imperial Ringstrasse which is lined with grandiose buildings such as the Hofburg, the Austrian Parliament buildings, the Rathaus, the State Opera House, the University, the Burgtheater, churches and museums.

You get: baggage storage, feed station at the finish, entry into the post-race prize drawing; sausages to all participating dogs

Prizes: trophies to the first 3 in each category, to the best 10 finishers (according to age-graded finishing times), to the best "heavy runners", and to runners with the most imaginative costumes; sausages to the first 10 dogs
