11th Rijeka Half Marathon 2012
Rijeka (Croatia), Sunday 22 April 2012
Held every year in April in the industrial port city of Rijeka, the Riječki polumaraton is the largest running event on Croatia's coast.
Last year, around 400 runners took part in the half marathon, and about 50 in the 3x7km relay race. According to the event website, the relay is meant for runners who are "not in top shape" and should "start training earlier" next year.
The race is an undulating out-and-back course which features some long ascents.
Starting and finishing in Rijeka's pedestrianized city centre, participants run past shipyards and high-rise suburbs towards the resort of Opatija.
In 2011, the fastest finishers were Ashenafi Erkolo of Ethiopia (1:06:06) and Ana Subotić of Serbia (1:16:32).
