28th História Running Race 2011

The História Futás is a long-standing and popular event, held in the delightful small town of Kőszeg which is situated in the far west of Hungary on the border with Austria.

Last year's event had over 700 participants. Most popular were the children's races and the 1,532-metre "mass race".

The 9km race had about 80 finishers. The winners were Hungary's international elite runners Tamás Kovács (27:47) and Anikó Kálovics (31:15).

Starting and finishing in front of the church on Kőszeg's main square, participants run three mildly undulating laps around the historic town centre and through residential areas.

Kőszeg's old town with its medieval castle and a large number of protected buildings, surrounded by vineyards and wooded hills, is absolutely worth a visit. 

The História Futás commemorates the year 1532 when a few hundred soldiers defended the town successfully against an army of 80,000 Turks.
