6th Brenta Half Marathon 2011
Bassano del Grappa (Italy), Sunday 4 September 2011
Runners will cross the "Ponte degli Alpini" to finish in the old town centre.
Held in early September, the Mezza Maratona del Brenta is an attractive road running event in the Veneto region in northern Italy. Approximately 500 runners took part in last year's half marathon.
Start and finish are in the town of Bassano del Grappa, situated on the River Brenta at the foot of the Venetian Alps, around 70 kilometres to the north of Venice.
Starting just outside Bassano's historic centre, the route is a very mildly undulating loop. The first half of the race goes mildly downhill, the second half uphill.
Competitors run through the town of Marostica with its hill-top castle, through the pottery town of Nove, and twice across the River Brenta. Back in Bassano, runners cross the Ponte degli Alpini, a beautiful wooden bridge designed by Palladio in the 16th century. The finish is on the very pretty Piazza Libertà in the old town centre.
In 2010, the winners were Philemon Kipkering of Kenya (1:07:45) and Italy's Michela Ipino (1:23:09).
