Borghetto - Gardaland (Italy), Sunday 2 October 2011
The race will start in Borghetto on the River Mincio.
Held one week before the Lake Garda Marathon, the Gardaland Half Marathon is another very scenic and interesting road running race at Lago di Garda, Italy's largest lake.
Last year's first edition was not held in October but in December. Starting and finishing at Gardaland, one of Europe's most popular amusement parks, the race had 1,150 finishers.
In 2011, the race will take a new route. The finish will be again at Gardaland but the start will be in Borghetto, an idyllic hamlet on the River Mincio, situated 12km from the lake's southern end.
Participants will run across the "Ponte Visconteo" (an over 600-year-old fortified dam), then along the river to Lake Garda, through the fortress town of Peschiera del Garda, along the lakeside promenade, and through the amusement park.
The race can be run as a 2-person relay (14km + 7km).
In 2010, the winners were Said Boudalia (1:06:35) and Angéline Nyiransabimana (1:16:21).
