16. Ljubljanski maraton 2011
Ljubljana (Slovenia), Sunday 23 October 2011
With over 11,000 participants, the Ljubljana Marathon is Slovenia's largest running event.
Last year, there were approximately 1000 finishers in the full marathon, around 5000 in the half marathon, and another 5000 in the 10K run which starts two hours earlier.
The full marathon consists of two equal laps. The time limit for the first lap is 2hr 15min!
The start and finish are in the city centre but competitors don't run through Ljubljana's beautiful old town. The route runs largely through residential and industrial parts of the city.
The course is mostly flat and fast. In 2010, Evans Ruto of Kenya won the men's marathon in a time of 2:10:17. Tiruwork Mekonnen of Ethiopia led the women home in 2:37:16.
