3rd Wine Town Marathon 2011
Manzano (Italy), Sunday 2 October 2011
Marathon runners will cross the Ponte del Diavolo in Cividale del Friuli.
This marathon and half marathon running race in the far north-east of Italy features an undulating route through a wine-growing region near the city of Udine.
The route varies slightly from year to year as the event takes place at a different location each year.
In 2011, the start and the finish of the marathon will be in the village of Manzano. Half marathon runners will join the field at the half-way mark of the marathon.
The route follows country lanes and roads through a string of villages and small towns, the largest of which is Cividale del Friuli with 11,000 inhabitants.
Running through the historic town centre and across the Ponte del Diavolo ("Devil's Bridge", pictured) is surely one of the highlights of the course.
In 2010, the marathon winners were Franco Plesnikar (2:31:09) and Elena Simsig (3:16:16).
