Leopoldi Run 2011
Vienna (Austria), Sunday 13 November 2011
Popular with runners all year round - the Prater Hauptallee in Vienna
The Leopoldilauf is one of the many road running events that are organized by the athletics club LCC Wien in Vienna's Prater Park.
The route is a completely flat 7km-loop, which is AIMS-certified. Entrants choose between the 7km race (one lap) or the half marathon (three laps plus 97.5 metres).
The start and the finish are near the Ernst-Happel-Stadion, Austria's largest stadium.
Most of the course is out and back the Prater Hauptallee, an over 4km-long avenue through the park, lined with chestnut trees.
In 2010, over 500 runners took part in the event. The half marathon winners were Wolfgang Wallner (1:11:12) and Susanne Pumper (1:23:25).
The Leopoldilauf is held two days before the feast day of Saint Leopold III, who died on 15 November 1136. Leopold is patron saint of Austria and of the city of Vienna.
