This road running event in Vienna's Prater park is held to commemorate Adolf Gruber (1920-1995), outstanding Austrian distance runner and founder of the athletic club LCC Wien.
Like many other Prater races organized by the LCC, the Gedenklauf comprises a 7K run and a half marathon, starting and finishing near the Ernst-Happel-Stadion, Austria's largest football stadium.
The course is a very flat, traffic-free and certified 7km-loop. Ergo, the half marathon consists of three laps. The third lap is slightly longer than the first two. Most of the route runs out-and-back along the Prater Hauptallee, the 4km-long chestnut-tree-lined main artery through the park.
In 2010, the half marathon winners were Alfred Sungi (1:14:14) and Tanja Stöckl (1:50:55).
