Soave (Italy), Sunday 1 May 2011
The start of the race is at the Porta Verona in Soave.
This point-to-point trail running event in the Province of Verona in northern Italy features a very scenic and hilly route. The 33-kilometre-long course includes 1950 metres of climbing.
The start is in the picturesque old town of Soave, which sits at the foot of the Venetian Prealps, about 25 kilometres to the east of the city of Verona.
Participants run on dirt roads and trails through the hills of the beautiful Soave Wine Zone, dotted with castles, villas and churches. The highest point on the course is at 920 metres above sea level.
The finish is at an elevation of 800 metres in the village of Bolca, which is well-known for its wonderfully preserved, 50-million-year-old fish fossils. After the race, runners - as well as friends and families - get free entry to the Fossil Museum in the village.
In 2010, the winners were Cristiano Campestrin (2:30:44) and Monica Penzo (3:06:13).
